The Saga of Icelanders – Migration to ”A New World” With Dr. Mathias Nordvig

I had the honor of speaking with the incredible Dr. Mathias Nordvig! Dr. Nordvig teaches at the University of Colorado Boulder, in the Nordic Studies Program. He teaches Pre-Christian Nordic mythologies, Scandinavian folklore, Nordic memory studies, myth and disaster studies, North Atlantic and Greenlandic literature, reception history of the Viking Age, and Neo-paganism. He has also done fascinating research on Volcanoes in Norse Myth. In today’s episode, we explore The Saga of Icelanders, and how we can use them as a source for the Viking Age. We also discuss the exceptionality of Iceland, and why migration promotes individualism. I learned so much from Dr. Nordvig, and we will definitely be having him back on the show soon! You can follow him on Academia.edu via the link below.
